Gracie Update

It was another of those sorts of nights. Gracie was restless and wanted out every hour or so. I did her bidding. I slept little. She started vomiting which is what happened a week or so ago. I decided around 3:45 to take her to the 24-hour veterinary service. She was the only one there and got immediate attention. They decided to rehydrate her with the under the skin hydration and also gave her an anti-nausea medication. That’s what worked the last time, and it worked again. When we got home, around 5:30, we both went to sleep. Gracie was up around 9 and wanted out. I, of course, obeyed. She came back inside and slept. She is still asleep.

I learned that at 3:45 on a before summer Sunday morning there isn’t any traffic. I also learned that the drive-up Dunkin Donuts opens at 5 which was just in time for me. Butternut donuts are freshest at 5:10. The sky is light at that time of the morning. I hadn’t thought about that. It was the light at the end of the day which has mostly taken my attention.

I learned a lot this early morning.

I’m sorry to hear that Gracie appears to be suffering from the affects of old age. The old adage is that you multiply their chronological age by six to find their equivalent age in dog years. Hopefully, she will pass away peacefully in her sleep with minimal suffering.

      Bob,
The vet was amazed at how healthy she is for an old dog. An x-ray showed no problems with her stomach except she needs an antacid periodically. The stomach issue could be from some food or even something she ate outside. I now have a pill for her whenever she needs it.

It isn’t easy being an old dog but I’m glad she is fine now!

Good luck! I hope the medication can help.
It looks like you both will need more naps, here’s an old German lullaby just in case:

      Birgit,
She is better but still won’t eat her dog food. The last time she did this it was 3 days before she ate, and it was chicken. I’m going to have to buy her burger as she has had it with the chicken.

Gracie is sleeping. The lullaby worked!

    Kat,
I’m glad you have a good vet who could take you right in, and that Gracie’s conditions is stable. I do think the stomach thing is probably something she ate, but can’t digest. Are you going to cook all of her food for her now. Sending purrs of healing to both of you.

      Lori,
Gracie has had a wonky stomach for a long while. I don’t know what causes it, but I know she eats my spider plants to make herself feel better.

The vet is a specialist and it is $177.00 to start, a fee everyone pays. My vet would have taken her but it was 3:30 am. Luckily they didn’t charge us the fee as Gracie had been there just a week ago for the same thing. It was nearly $700 then.

As far as I know, she just had her regular food. I’m going to cook some then try to add it to her canned food.

      Thank you for the purrs!

      Kat and the kids.
